Other Payments
If you are getting Invalidity Pension, Disability Allowance, Blind
Pension or Unemployability Supplement (under Occupational Injuries
Benefits) you may be entitled to additional payments and benefits
depending on your circumstances.
Supplementary Welfare
Allowance
This means-tested payment is for those, habitually resident in
Ireland, who do not qualify for some other payment and have
insufficient means to meet their needs. It is administered by the
Health Service Executive. Also available are a Diet Supplement
where a special diet is required for a medical condition and a
Heating Supplement for those living alone or with certain
dependants, who have exceptional heating expenses due to ill-health
or infirmity. Apply to the Community Welfare Officer at your local
Health Centre
Living Alone
Allowance
This is a weekly
payment made to people receiving certain payments from the
Department of Social and Family Affairs and living alone. Apply to
the section that is paying your allowance/pension
Household Benefits Package
The scheme comprises an Electricity/Gas Allowance, a Telephone
Allowance and a Free Television Licence. The account must be in
your name. Apply to the Free Schemes Section in the
Department of Social and Family
Affairs.
National Fuel Scheme
This scheme, running from October to April, provides a means-tested
payment from the Department
of Social and Family Affairs to help households, dependent on
long-term social welfare payments, provide for their heating needs.
It consists of a Fuel Allowance and an additional Smokeless Fuel
Allowance. Apply to the section that is paying your
allowance/pension.
